Other Sources of Environmental Mercury

Other sources of exposure that deserve particular mention:
- Mercury is used in religious rituals in Santeria. It is sprinkled on the floor in homes and other buildings as part of these rituals, thus contaminating the buildings for current and future occupants. More information can be found at:
- Ethylmercury is used as a preservative in cosmetics such as mascara. In December 2007, Minnesota became the first state in the nation to ban the intentional addition of mercury into cosmetics .
